About Gossamer Gear

Gossamer Gear, formerly GVP Gear, was created by Glen Van Peski, a consulting civil engineer in Carlsbad, California.

He started backpacking with his son’s Boy Scouts troop and was inspired to create a lightweight backpacking pack for his adventures with his friend, Read.

Initially, Glen offered his designs to people on a website, but people started asking him to make them backpacks. He decided that creating Gossamer Gear would be his legacy to the world.

Gossamer Gear launched their travel collection in May 2025. They decided that travelers should have the opportunity to travel light and purposefully as well.

We received the Aero Jet travel backpack to review. As an avid travel blogger, having a smart yet comfortable backpack is important. I need a solution for all my gear as I travel throughout multiple countries and assignments.

Right out of the bag, the backpack feels lightweight and has a low profile. It looks deceivingly small, but it can pack at least 6 days of outfits (women’s apparel), 2 pairs of sandals, and even my DSLR camera and laptop.

Aero Jet Backpack Pros

Very Lightweight – 2.5 pounds (40 ounces) with a 35L capacity.
RFID blocking pockets to keep your information safe, including a hidden passport pocket in the rear of the bag.
Packing Cubes (sold separately) are available to help you organize and efficiently pack your gear. Can be purchased as a bundle or individually.
Stretchy pockets on the shoulder straps, side, and front of the bag. The side pockets stretch to fit a large water bottle.
Side and top handles to comfortably load and carry your bag.
Padded laptop compartment that fits up to a 17″ laptop.
Sternum Strap to help secure your bag and lessen the load on your back.
Discreet AirTag pocket tucked into the top corner of the mesh pocket inside the tech compartment.
Clamshell Opening – Allows you to see where everything is stored in your bag.
Trolley strap to attach your backpack to a rolling suitcase.
Compatible with standard luggage locks for added security and convenience as you travel through the airport.
Fast Belt Compatible to help distribute weight as you travel.

Aero Jet Backpack Cons

Only available in black. Hopefully, they release future iterations in fun, bright colors!
Utilitarian Look – Does not look fashionable.
Long Design – The bag is long in length. It is suitable for people who are 5’5″ and taller. I prefer the length because it allows the backpack to retain a slim profile. It may not be a good fit for people shorter than 5’5″.

Should I Buy the Aero Jet Backpack?

The Aero Jet backpack has exceeded our expectations. This sleek, smart bag is the perfect travel backpack for those who want to travel light and go far.

The bag costs $225, which is on par with many other travel backpack brands.

The only difference is how lightweight and functional the Aero Jet is. We definitely see ourselves using this as a main travel bag for years.
