The Vietnamese áo dài (pronounced “ow yai”) is a traditional outfit worn by both men and women. It consists of long, flowy pants and a floor-length top with long sleeves, side slits, and a neck collar.
Nowadays, there are many áo dài styles, including those without collars and sleeveless silhouettes.
Áo Dài is typically worn during holidays, such as the Lunar New Year (Tết), and special occasions, such as weddings and engagements. It use to be worn more regularly, but Vietnamese fashion has become more modernized and Western.
